The roar of the engine, mimicking the rumbling sound of thunder and a vibration felt deep down to your core, the sleek body styles, candy for the eyes, classic and primal.

1970 Plymouth Barracuda

When a muscle car cruises by, everyone stops and stares, jaws drop and mouths water. Their appeal is undeniable. A beautifully restored classic is more than a work of art, it's an icon for days gone by of freedom, power and true American culture.

You don't simply watch a restored classic, you want to get inside, look around at the details, the very soul of the car is revealed, and somehow by proxy our own soul is exposed through the emotions revealed. We relate to our world this way and it's no wonder people are so captivated by these cars, for it is the key to unlocking a deeper part of our own beauty and brawn.

Plymouth pioneered the pony car with its April 1964 release of the Barracuda. Built from 1964 to 1974, there were three generations of Barracuda. Originally based off of the body style of the Valiant, the Barracuda sold 23,443 cars it's first year on the market. The 1964 you could find a Plymouth Barracuda for sale for $2,512.

The first generation ran from 1964 to 1966 and offered the fastback and coupe models. The 1964 model was the last vehicle equipped with the push button automatic transmission. Due to the introduction of the Slant 6 and the LA V8 engines Chrysler, Plymouth's parent company revolutionized power beneath the hood. The engine design provided a higher cubic displacement versus horsepower which gave the engine substantially more power. The Slant 6 altered the engine by slanting the cylinders at a 30 degree angle allowing for bigger manifolds which provided more cylinder distribution of fuel and air intake. The LA V8 was a lighter engine and the most powerful option for the 1964 model. It gave the vehicle 180 horsepower with it's double barrel carburetor design.

In 1965, Chrysler introduced the Barracuda Formula S. The Formula S offered a new power option with it's new Commando V8 quad barrel carburetor. This increased horsepower to an incredible 235. Other upgrades included larger tires, tachometer, upgraded suspension, air conditioning and disk brakes. The 1966 model revamped the look and style. The center console was introduced for this year's model.

The second generation ran on the production line from 1967 to 1969. Consumers looking to purchase the second generation of Plymouth Barracuda for sale had the options of two door fastback coupe, notch-back coupe and finally a convertible model. The convertible model appealed greatly to the younger generation, flocking them into showrooms all over. With it's sleek sporty design and sexy attributes, it was a sure hit. The second generations also sparked a whole new following with it's legendary Hemi engine. A mere fifty cars were released with a 426 cubic inch engine made specifically for stock racing. This took horsepower from previous levels of 235 to an amazing 425. Talk about power!! These had to be marked to note that they were not permitted on the street. The Formula S was given a power boost as well with its new 440 Super Commando V8 engine.

The third generation, which ran the assembly line from 1970 to 1974, offered the two door convertible and the notchback coupe. This generation veered completely away from look of the Valiant and began instead to follow the Dodge Challenger. The fastback option was no longer available. Some say that the 1970 version was the most influential of all of the Barracudas. There were three versions introduced, the base model, a sport, and finally a luxury class. New options for Plymouth Barracuda for sale was a variety of bright eye catching colors, making this line stand out ahead of others on the market.

Completely restored Cudas can go for several hundred thousand dollars for today's collectors. The power and feel of these incredible classics are a dream to own and drive. Owners don't even think about the money, they are too busy yearning to get their hands on a perfectly restored, sexy Barracuda.

The Barracuda and the Dodge Challenger were produced as twins during their prime in 1970 and 1971. In 2008, Dodge began production on a new Challenger, using the same body style from the third generation in which it was most known. This reinvention of a classic has brought even more Barracuda enthusiast out of hiding and is sparking a whole new generation of followers.

The days of the Barracuda are not gone. Many car shows all over the country offer custom versions of the legend reborn. The Barracuda is here to stay, and the millions of people collecting, restoring, buying and selling them are what keep them alive years after their production models ceased to produce new models. The child like exuberance of the collectors and mechanics alike, are the very soul of this car!

When looking for old cars for sale, it is important that you approach the situation with a well defined course of action, know what you are looking for and know just what you are getting into. Old cars are just that, old. This means they are 25, 30, even 60 years old. Unless you find a mint condition car, and are willing to pay the mint price, you are going to get a car that has a “history,” quite often a colorful one, meaning it will have some problems. But old cars are fun and cool and whether you are looking for a powerful muscle car or a sleek coupe, there are a few guidelines that are good to follow when looking at old cars for sale.

Know what you Want
What type of vehicle are you looking for? Do you want a coupe? How about a fat fender or maybe a feisty muscle car? These are questions that should be answered before you even begin your search. It will narrow your field somewhat. The next question that you want to ask, particularly with old cars for sale is just how much work do you want to do on your new automobile? Do you want a complete resto project? Do you only want to do a little resto or no restoration at all? Next, consider maintenance. Is the vehicle that you are considering one that you can work on yourself or is there someone nearby who can work on it? What about parts? Can you readily find parts for the type of car that you want? Do you want a vehicle that is so obscure that you can't find parts for it?

Do your Homework
Once you have determined what you want, it is time to delve a little deeper. The internet and various publications are chock full of old cars for sale, so it is important to be careful and discerning when you are shopping. Do your homework on the type of car that you have chosen. Know what was stock for that year and what was special order. Become familiar with any problems that other owners have had with their cars and find out how difficult or easy it is to get parts. It is also a very good idea to check out the Kelly Blue Book for Classic Cars. It lists prices for classic cars and can be a valuable tool for ensuring that you get a fair price for your vehicle.

Ask the Right Questions
Basically, there are two types of questions when you are discussing your car purchase: those that ask for facts and those that ask for opinions. While the seller's opinions may be helpful, it is a good idea to get the facts first. Asking questions like “Have you had problems getting parts?” “What type of engine does it have?” “How much rust is on the body?” and “How long have you owned the car?” are fact-based questions. Opinion based questions are “How does it handle?” “What kind of shape it is in?” and “Does it run well?”

Take her for a Spin
This is the best part of shopping for old cars for sale! Get behind the wheel and take it for a spin unless, of course, you are getting a complete resto project. If you are getting a classic for a daily driver, though, get it out on the road and see how it handles. Pay attention to how the engine runs and sounds, how the car stops and if there is excessive slack in the steering. In short, pay close attention to how the car handles and be on the lookout for any potential problems.

The thing to remember when you are shopping for old cars for sale is that the cars are old and they are most likely going to have some problems. The trick is knowing just how many problems you can handle in your car and then looking for one that fits that bill.

Whether you are looking to restore your old classic muscle car for your own personal use or to sell for a profit you can find the antique car parts to make it look like a new old car. So many people go to car shows all over the country to show off their car restoration work and/or to sell their antique car. If you are new to car restoration you can get ideas from going to car shows. You want to try to match an original color of your classic car. You can also find old parts that are in excellent and like new condition for your car restoration. Some of the car parts you might need include spoilers, fins, special trims and moldings, emblems, hood ornaments, interior seats, interior dashboards and those old special stick shifts that just make a classic muscle car look cool. Finding old car parts for your antique car will allow you to restore a classic “Junker” back into the car it used to be when it was new.

Lucky for you, the Internet is the biggest and best “store” to find and buy the antique car parts you need for your car restoration project(s). Maybe you are doing a restoration with your son in order to spend time bonding and teaching him all about the old cars you used to drive way back when. No matter what your reason for restoring an old car, you can find all the parts you need to complete a full classic car restoration at prices you can afford. The ability to shop online for old car parts lets you shop and compare prices so you can restore for less.

Of course, no source can guarantee that the exact classic muscle car you lust after is even for sale anywhere. If it's not available, or if it's rare there are no more of them, then obtaining it, isn't going to be easy.

Alternatively you can also use the "Classic Car Search " box on the right. Enter the exact year and make of the Vintage Car Value you are looking for. The advantage of this, is that these searches are permanently stored here and are dynamically updated. If you come back in a few days, you can click on your orignal search to see the latest listings of the classic car you are trying to value. If check your classic car search every 3 or 4 days, you will be able to come up with a pretty accurate classic car value for the year and make you are researching.

There are some places that post classic car values online. The car buying guide NADA is one such guide that lists classic car values free of charge. Kelley has an online tool that allows you to look up various new and used vehicles, starting with the year 1988, and get their values. However, the Kelley Early Model Guide provides classic car values for vintage cars that are in excellent condition, good condition, fair condition and poor condition, but the book is only available for purchase. There is no tool. This is very handy, though, because it can be tough to decide if the deal you are getting is truly a deal. With these resources you know if you are getting good value for your money - or if you are being taken for a ride.

You can also find some websites that offer guides for classic car values. Many give you free access to the values of the vintage cars. Manheim Gold is on such company. The tool on their site allows you to select the year, make and model. It has an extensive database ranging from 1886 to 2003 and it includes a wide variety of cars and truck, including classic cars and collectible cars. The values are taken from some of the more significant automobile auctions that are held each year. For quick and easy classic car pricing this is a great way to go.

The NADA guide, though, is probably the best know classic car value guide. It is the large source of vehicle values in the world and it contains information on new and used cars and trucks, motorcycles and classic car values. The NADA Guide has been a standard for years and is used by both sellers and buyers of new cars, classic cars, used cars and other vehicles. It is highly advisable that anyone who is considering the purchase of a vehicle consult the NADA Guide prior to signing on that dotted line.

Of course make, model, year and condition of the vehicle are all valid and important considerations when you are purchasing a vintage car or truck, but face it, when it is all said and done, how hard that purchase hits your pocket book is very important. By researching classic car pricing and knowing what you should and shouldn't be paying for that car you have your eye on will help you save some cash. And you can put that cash toward restoring that classic car once it is in your garage.

You can reseach classic car values by looking at the asking prices of all the old cars for sale here

Old Car Parts: Used or New?

So, you have purchased that vintage car that you have been dreaming about for years. She's a real cherry, but does need a little work. As you begin your new resto project, you will begin looking for old car parts. Used or new? Well, there are pros and cons to each, so let's take a look at some of the good points and the bad. Only after reviewing all of your options can you make an educated, solid decision regarding the parts that you put in your classic car.

When you are looking for old car parts, used parts may be easier to come by and cheaper, particularly with certain vehicles. You can search for old car parts for sale here. You can also scour a junk yard or directly contact dealers, you can probably find used parts that are fairly inexpensive.

Get in contact with some local classic car clubs and ask some of the members for resources and information regarding classic car parts. The internet has made it much easier and cheaper to buy old car parts, with a few clicks that hard to find part for your old Car can be on its way to your front door. Do your homework and make sure that the parts you are getting are the right ones for you vehicle and are in good shape if they are used.

New parts are another option, but some manufacturers no longer make the parts for some older cars. The advantage here, of course, is the quality. When purchasing old car parts, used you have to wonder if they are in pristine condition or even in good condition. However, with new parts, you know you are getting a car part that has never been in another vehicle. You know it is in very good shape. This will put your mind at ease because you know you are getting what you pay for. The downside is that new car parts are generally more expensive.

Transformer Made From Old Car Parts

If you aren't having much luck finding old car parts, used parts were not available and new parts were no longer manufactured, then fabrication is your last shot. Yeah, this is the most expensive way to get old car parts, but there are several advantages to this method. Of course, if you can't find it new or used, this in the only option that you have. However, having the part fabricated ensures that you get just the right part and it is made exactly for your vehicle. There is not chance of someone in a warehouse somewhere picking up the wrong part and sending it to you, or that the part you need is not available. With fabricated parts, those parts are always available. More expensive, yes. Worth the price, absolutely.

The bottom line here is that when you are looking for classic car parts, used, new or fabricated, you do what you need to do to get the part that you need. If one method doesn't work, go to the next. Of course, if you are minding your pocketbook, then you probably want to begin your search right here. Use the old car parts section to locate the part you need. Usually the best prices you will get for old car parts is online. The goal should be to have the parts that you need for your car so that is performs the way that you want it to on the road.

While Camaro kept many of the mechanical and drive train components, the car did receive a light face-lift. The grille was designed with a deep V cant to it and the headlights were more deeply set. The doors and quarter panels were also changed to give the vehicle a lower sportier look; some would say it looked meaner than previous years.

On September 26 , 1966, a legend was born; this is the year the Chevy Camaro was introduced. Today this is still an automobile loved by thousands and envied by even more. Camaro enthusiasts come in every shape, size, and gender and age range. Yes guys even the girls love the classics. The Camaro production run began as a '67 model and ran until 2002 with four distinct generations, and a fifth soon to come. Here we will look at what made this car great starting with the first generation in Camaro history.

1st Generation Camaro

The first Camaro was released in late 1966 with a 1967 production date. This means that the car was actually made in 1966 but the title will reflect 1967 as the year of the vehicle. This first generation would last until 1969.

In 1966, the executives of Chevrolet knew they had to come up with an answer to Fords Mustang. This fast little car was out doing the Corvair in sales and showed no signs of letting up especially after some bad press from Ralph Nader. To compete with Ford the Camaro was conceived.

The Camaro was built on GM's F-body style with rear wheel drive and would come out in several engines sizes between 1967 and 1969. Camaro specs include these engine sizes:

o 3.8 L (230)

o 4.1 L (250)

o 4.9 L (302)

o 5.4 L V-8 (327)

o 5.7 L V-8 (350)

o 6.5 L V-8 (396)

o 7.0 L V-8 (427) - 1969 only

1967

The 1967 Camaro shared many mechanical features with the 1968 Chevy II Nova three main packages were available.

The RS package was an appearance package that came with hidden headlights, revamped taillights and RS emblems; this package was available on all models.

Super sport or SS as it is known to car junkies was also made available for the Camaro. The SS was available in two engine sizes the 350 V-8 and the 396 big block V-8. With large V-8 engines and a subcompact design, these cars were built for speed. You will find the SS emblems on the grille, front fenders, gas cap and horn. It was also possible to order it with both the SS and RS package giving you a Camaro RS/SS.

The Z28 option was also released in 1967 but it was not advertised so buyers were unaware of it initially. The Z28 option code featured power disc brakes on the front and a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. This year had a 302 small block V-8 and was built to compete in the Trans Am series, which required an engine size of less than 305 cubic inch. Only 602 Z28's were sold in 1967 so if you find a '67 Z28 for sale today you might want to give it a second look.

2nd Generation

The second generation of Camaro history would see some marked body changes. While still built on the uni-body frame the 1970 Camaro specs included a wider body that was significantly longer than previous years. The new body style was inspired at least in part by the Aston Martin and Ferrari. This new body would also include fast back design and wider doors to allow easier access to the back seat.

1970-1981

This was one of my first restoration projects - A 1980 Camaro Z28

Like its predecessors, the 1970 Camaro would include all three-performance packages. The car would release with the option of two base engines, the six cylinder 250 cid and the eight cylinder 396 cid. By all accounts, the preferred package on this year model was the sporty Z28. In this year, the Z28 350 cid engine was built special and included premium parts and components. The less radical cam in this model allowed for a 400 turbo automatic transmission for the very first time. The 1970 Camaro was not released until February of '70 and led many to incorrectly call it 1970 ½. Later models were less desirable due to stricter emission laws that the addition of the heavy bumpers because of a federal mandate. For twelve years there were few changes to the Camaro, below we will highlight each year's changes:

o 1971- Relatively minor appearance changes including the addition of the high back bucket seats with adjustable headrests.

o 1972- A strike at UAW plant in Ohio led to the scrapping of over 1100 unfinished Camaros'. This was the last year for the SS option and nearly the last year in Camaro history. Strict emission controls and need for fuel economy were crippling the high performance reputation of sports cars.

o 1973- The 396 cid could no longer be ordered and the horsepower was reduced due to the addition of emission controls. A switch from solid lifter to hydraulic allowed for air conditioning on the Z28 models. For the first time the Z28 would come without the striping and emblems. More changes included the console mounted automatic shifter and a return to the popular power windows not seen since 1969.

o 1974- The Camaro grew another seven inches in length, went from round to rectangular tail lights and was the last year of the flat back glass.

o 1975- This year was the end of the Z28; higher emission standards have continually eaten away at performance and spelled the end of extreme horsepower. This was the first year for the new catalytic converters, which also ended the true dual exhaust systems. Some additions this year were the new wrap around back glass, air conditioning on 6 cylinders and power door locks.

o 1976- This year seen little change but added power brakes as standard equipment on V-8 models. A yellow 1976 Camaro with black racing stripes was featured in the hit movie transformers.

o 1977- The Z28 returns as a 1977 ½ much to the excitement of Camaro lovers. Increases in technology have the '77 Z28 turning in times on the track comparable to the ‘60's models.

o 1978- New bumpers, body kits and T-tops have this year rating the most one-year sales since 1969.

o 1979- Redesigned flatter instrument panel and the addition of front spoiler and fender flares for the Z28 have left this the highest one-year sales to date in Camaro history.

o 1980- Say good-bye to the inline 4.1 liter 6 cylinder and hello to the 229 V-6. This year had no V-8 option for any model except the Z28.

o 1981- Last year of the second generation saw dismal sales as customers awaited the release of the third generation Camaro. Little was changed from 1980 except for the tranny options on the Z28 with the 350-cid engine. The only transmission you could get was an automatic; the four-speed lover had to go to the smaller 305.

Camaro history has seen ups and downs through the years with three more generations to come. Generations 3 and 4 would see major changed in materials and technology. The third generation would sport options like third brake lights, 15 or 16-inch wheels and was the first generation to sport throttle body fuel injection. It was also the generation that would first release the IROC, international race of champions, Camaro for sale. The fourth generation saw ever-increasing demands for fuel economy and speed and led to more extensive uses of plastic over steel that is common today. This generation ran from 1993 until 2002 when the Camaro sales numbers fell to a level that did not warrant redesign.
